Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure commented the incident made him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
