The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet

The speculation around the recent awards show has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
