Whenever a significant honors show approaches, one notices a clamor for introducing of new categories to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.
My colleague has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal is the most urgent and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.
Categorizing Game Types
Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.
Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category during that awards season
- A different innovative game was excluded that year
- Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment in 2021
- Only a few brain-teasers scraped into small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.
The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers are working at the hard edge of video game design, producing among the purest expressions of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
